Chaplain’s Notes

April 21, 2026

We received word today that Base Life Member Burton P. Tharp departed on Eternal Patrol on March 24, 2026.

CWO4 Burton qualified in 1961 aboard USS Chivo SS-341, and also served aboard USS Sea Robin SS-407, USS Blenny SS-324, USS Nathan Hale SSBN-623, USS Aspro SSN-648, USS Promfret SS-391 and DSV-1. He was a member of the Holland Club having been qualified in submarines for sixty-five years.

Burton Tharp was born on July 5, 1941.

I’m finally back from Penny’s camp trip. 😵‍💫😮‍💨🫩 I got some much needed rest last night finally. 😂

But I wanted to let you know that Ralph Harris’ son Douglas Harris, is in the hospital. He’s getting a lung resection. Martina texted me this past weekend before I left. Kemmer is his resource nurse. They’re in both good spirits but he’s in pain and she’s anxious.

I am just mentioning so we keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Kemmer’s taking good care of them. I’m sure he’ll be there for a few days after his surgery today.
